The Slab Yield Trap
Countertops are quoted per square foot, but stone is bought per slab. A kitchen needing 52 square feet may still require two slabs, because the pieces have to be cut around the veining and the sink. That's why two kitchens with the same square footage can come back at different prices — and why a cheap per-foot quote can end up costing more once the second slab appears on the invoice.

Why did two shops quote me differently for the same stone?
Usually slab count, edge profile, cutouts, tear-out or templating — one of them isn't in the cheaper quote.

They overlap. Entry quartz and mid granite often land close; premium tiers of either run higher.
