Quarried, unique slab to slab, and unbothered by a hot pan set down without thinking. It has been the workhorse of city kitchens for decades for good reason. Reseal it once a year and it will outlast the cabinets.
Quartzite
Natural stone with marble's look and more hardness than granite. The answer for a white kitchen with veining where etching and scratching are real concerns.
Calacatta Laza
The stone every other one gets compared to. It ages visibly, etching where acid touches it and softening over the years. In a Chicago bungalow with original character, that patina often looks right. In a new build meant to stay crisp, it usually does not.
