The Sealing Question, Answered Straight

“Granite needs constant sealing” is the most repeated myth in this business. The truth: it depends on the stone. Granite density varies enormously. Some dark, dense granites practically never need sealer. Some lighter, more porous stones benefit from it once or twice a year.

The test takes fifteen minutes: drip water on the surface and wait. If the stone darkens where the water sat, it’s ready for sealer. If it beads and the stone stays the same color, you’re fine.

Why You Must See the Full Slab

This matters more with granite than with any other material. A four-inch sample shows a fragment of a pattern that varies across eight feet. Full slabs carry:

Directional movement that has to be laid out deliberately
Mineral concentrations and color transitions the sample never shows
Variation between two slabs sold under the same name
Features unique to your slab — which is the appeal, once you’ve seen them
