How 2cm Countertops Are Built Up
In kitchens, 2cm stone usually needs extra support and a thicker-looking edge. There are two common ways to do it:
- Plywood sub-top: a layer of plywood is fixed to the cabinets, and the stone sits on it. This supports the thinner slab and raises it to a normal counter height.
- Laminated edge: a strip of the same stone is bonded under the front edge, so the 2cm top looks about twice as thick from the front.
- Mitered edge: the edge strip is joined at a 45 degree angle, so the veining wraps around the corner. It’s the look behind most waterfall islands and thick modern edges.
